"Identifies files and modifies their extensions with commands"
TrID is able to identify up to six thousand different file types by analyzing aspects such as their extensions. When scanning a folder to deal with the files it houses, this command-line based program makes use of a signature database to find out data about the files, allowing you to change the extension of the selected item.
To run the scan you don't need to access an interface, as TrID works via the command line. Writing the name of the program followed by the file or folder to be scanned proceeds to check the signature database for the type of file being processed, taking into account not only its extension, but also other details that are properly compared.
TrID gives you the ability to automatically change file extensions. For this action it makes use of the signature database, which has to be downloaded and updated to identify new file types.
